Intrinsic or chronological aging is a function of the body's metabolic processes naturally
slowing down which decreases the rate of new cell production. Individuals will age
at different rates due to heredity, lifestyle choices and extrinsic conditions.

Extrinsic or environmental exposures affect skin aging and can be controlled. Biological
elements affecting skin are: nutrient deficiencies, sun exposure, air pollution, extreme
weight loss, medications, physical activity and emotional health.
